Lipedema is a chronic fat distribution disorder that almost exclusively affects women.Typical symptoms include symmetrical fat deposits on the legs, hips, buttocks and arms, often associated with pain, tenderness and a tendency to bruise.
Hands and feet are usually not affected.
Lipedema is classified into three stages:
Smooth skin surface, soft fatty tissue
Uneven skin with nodules and indentations
Pronounced, irregular fat deposits with significant functional limitations
Lipedema therapy with gentle liposuction
Modern liposuction (water-assisted or vibration-assisted), optionally combined with laser lipolysis or minimally invasive plasma skin tightening (argon plasma) for optimal contouring and tightening
Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia
Approx. 1.5–4 hours
Legs, hips, buttocks, arms
Moderate after surgery, well manageable with medication
Approx. 7–14 days
1–2 weeks
Long-term, permanent with stable weight

Surgical lipedema treatment in our practice is performed using gentle, modern liposuction techniques specifically adapted to sensitive fat tissue. For aesthetic contouring and minimally invasive skin tightening, liposuction can be optionally combined with additional methods:
For targeted fat cell reduction and a smooth, even body contour
For gentle skin tightening without large incisions

The treatment can be covered by statutory health insurance under certain conditions or provided as a private service. Details regarding eligibility for coverage can be found on the website of the Federal Joint Committee:
